Barbie has always been girls' favourite thing. When people say Barbie, the things come in our mind would likely to be; blonde, white, pretty, small mouth, perfect nose, blue eyes, 11.5 inches tall, 36 inches chest, 18 inches waist and 33 inches hips. These measurements have received a lot of criticism as it is considered unrealistic and young girls who would attempt to look like Barbie would probably become anorexic. Most of girls must have thought at least once in their life, "How to be Barbie?" which is impossible. There's nothing in this world is perfect even Barbie. There are those who attempted to look like Barbie and ended up miserable, they undergo surgery and spent fortune money to look like Barbie. This is known as Barbie Syndrome. People misconception of beauty because of Barbie affected on the way girls see their own bodies. Lots of parents avoid from buying Barbie for their children as they concern Barbie reinforced an impossible standard of beauty for girls (their children) to try to meet. It is reported that “girls exposed to Barbie have lower body esteem and greater desire for a thinner body shape” than those who had been given dolls reflecting larger body types or no dolls at all.

This matter has been arisen and comes to the mind of Mattel, the company that manufacture Barbie. They have finally announced a new production of Barbie that comes in many different sizes. Not only that, it also comes with different skin tones. Mattel wants Barbie to inspire girls out there to embrace and love themselves just the way they are. This new production also gives a broader view of beauty to people and lashes out the narrow standard of what a beautiful body looks like. White, yellow, black, skinny, curvy, chubby, petite, tall are all definitions of beauty. For more than 5 decades, Barbie has been a global, cultural icon and a source of inspiration and imagination to millions of girls around the world. Barbie reflects the world girls see around them. Now it is time for Barbie to gives confidence to the girls! The new Barbie will be on market on 1st March. I can finally pick a Barbie that represents me!
